Five Intrepid Travelers

P1000340The five of us getting ready to depart from Dongducheon at the start of the trip.  From right to left, Dave Brian, Jasper, Lance, and Liz.

Brian

The organizer and “tour guide” of the trip.  He’s travelled to Russia once before (Moscow and St. Petersburg), can read and write Cyrillic, and has a basic understanding of the language.  He loves doing crazy adventures like this and sharing the experience with others, though at times this leads to skipped or significantly delayed meals and “death march” walks across foreign cities.

Dave

Brian’s Dad, who has almost completed the third career of his life as a junior high school science teacher.  He also loves seeing the world and going on crazy adventures, some notable ones from the past being a 45-day 12,000 mile around-the-country trip in a motorhome, biking down the Oregon coast, or driving the Alaska-Canada (Al-Can) highway.

Lance

A husband and a father, Lance is a kind man and a fearless traveller.  He’s the kind of person who has no qualms talking to random people in foreign countries through a combination of hand and arm signals, an iPhone, and whatever bits of the local language he’s picked up.  A great travelling companion, he makes sure that the group doesn’t forget that sometimes a vacation is meant for relaxing, including basic necessities like eating, sleeping, and spending some time just to take in the moment without rushing on to the next big thing

Liz

Lance’s wife of three years, Liz is a brave woman willing to take their two-year old son on the trip and all the complexities and uncertainties that involves.  She’s formerly traveled to Italy during college and didn’t want to pass up the opportunity of a lifetime to experience the cities, people, and culture of Russia.

Jasper

The two-year old son of Lance and Liz whose primary interests are trains (particularly Tom the Tank Engine), getting into mischief, and playing with toys.
